I may see your point if they were taking the money and using it to do something about the problem, but they are not.

Revenge
We know nothing about these thieves of the high seas. Revenge! They screamed as three of their comrades fell into the sea with bullet holes through their heads. So the next time a ship is hi-jacked or ship-jacked, if there are any American or French on board, it is quite possible the pirates will take their revenge. Good post.

It goes deeper than that. This country has no navy...which is why Britain and other countries have chosen to dump their toxic wastes off Somalia and have chosen to over-fish the Somalian coastline. Its a free for all. Pirates say they are defending their country. I agree with them! You should check the diseases caused by toxic dumping there before you conclude!

Actually, it's been pretty lucrative for those guys. A proper cost-benefit analysis would find  that, over the years, their take has been enormous relative to the cost. Why? Because the international community has been timidly sitting on its collective ass and let them get away with it...
