You are so right-your self worth is not attached to those potatoes.  Out of curiousity though, how did they turn out?

Maybe it's time to tell your mother that you don't need "mothering"
any more, that she can relax now and just be a friend. A supportive friend. My mother was hypercritical and a perfectionist for as long as I can remember. Nobody ever quite came up to her standards. And then I realized what was really going on -- she was the one who hadn't come up to snuff. It was her own perceived failings she was projecting. And your sweet potatoes cannot fail, whether anyone notices or not.
