sure
Infants cannot distinguish themselves from their parents. It takes a while for them to develop a unique sense of self. Very young children want to please their parents, in part because they identify so closely with their parents, and in part because, although they recognize themselves as separate beings, they know they are completely dependent upon their parents. Even in adulthood, we remain dependent on other people. Someone has to grow our food and build our houses and cure our illnesses--we can't do it all alone. Finally, we need to please other people to encourage them to swap some DNA and stick around to help raise kids. So it makes good evolutionary sense to want to please other people. As a byproduct of this sensible desire, sometimes we want to wear the same kind of jeans as some idiot we see on TV. Whatcha gonna do?
