Of course you are right. There is indulgence and extravagance which is despicable. Its not only malnutrition but there are so many other problems - infant and maternal mortality, general lack of health care, housing, sanitation, water, education - you name it. Will it end by being less extravagent? Not sure. Its like saying that all the money for defense spending, if not put there, would be put to the social sector. A pipe dream, but it should not stop us form demanding more resources for the social sector.
The world I describe around me has the poor and the well to do, living side by side. My staff live in the same building as me, two floors above. I support their children, schooling and health care. I do what I can to make their life better. I believe charity begins at home. I know what the government doesn;t do, but I also know what I can do, with my money and privilege.

elinjo, yes, many people said the same thing about the end
it seemed that the song had been recorded before and it needed to be used somewhere in the film. I guess this was the spot they found. On the other hand, I liked the song there. It spelt a certain kind of joy which was important after the heaviness of the film.

This is interesting but in our recessionist world it is exclusive to the elites! We are suffering. 52% of of Indian children are under-fed. I cannot support elite indulgence. India is where my roots are at....but the extravagance, is is revolting! Amitabh might a role model but he is just another clown!

The description of your morning walk is very interesting; mine would be completely different. No roses yet but masses of snowdrops and winter aconites. I have now seen 'Slum dog millionaire' and thought it was a brilliant film, but the ending; the prolonged dance scene seemed somewhat out of place and irrelevant to me.
