Re: Re: Self-Publishing Experience

Thank you Betsy for your kind words. Yes, I am on the Kindle (I have a Kindle 1 since December 2007), and all my works are available for $3.99 on the Kindle regardless of length, except my book on Indie Publishing, which I offer at $ .99 (and virtually forgo royalty).

Re: Self-Publishing Experience
WOW! I would say you are probably the most successful Indie-publisher I have come in contact with. That said, you also must be a pretty good read. And, you also work at it which I think is what most of us self/indie pubishers forget to think about. Books don't ordinarily sell themselves.  Great job. I will add your information to the blog. I hope it will generate some additional revenue for you. I'm glad you visited. I will check out your Web site. BTW - I have an opinion blog and yesterday I blogged on the Kindle 2. Care to respond to that blog? Do you own a Kindle? I'll have to check you out on Kindle as well.

Self-Publishing Experience

I have had success at INDIE publishing, especially since I never lay out any money to do it and do it through CreateSpace and Kindle. I've published 10 books (7 novels, 2 books of poetry and 1 book called - "Are You Still Submitting Your Works to a Traditonal Publisher?" - a work on Indie Publishing). All my works are available through Amazon.com under the name Edward C. atterson (don't forget the C). After one year I have sold 460 books ($2,745.17) with royalties at $755.49 as of this morning). I have garnered 60 reviews, mostly 4 and 5 star and have "fans." In fact, when I publish a novel, I generally sell 10-15 books on the day I announce it. One of my self-published (I prefer Indie-published) works, No irish Need Apply has been named Book of the Month at Booz Allen Hamilton's Diversity Reading Group in McClean Va, which means their organization of 100 readers will be buying the book, reading and discussing it. I will be traveling in June to read a selection and lead the discussion on June 15th, do a book signing and receive an honarium of a few thousand bucks. I have another book in the works for March (The Academician), one for May (The Dragon's Pool) and two others (The Road to Grafenwohr and Look Away, Silence) for pre-fall releases. In addition, I have re-releases of 4 of my published books coming before the end of the summer (with new covers and reset type - all at no cost to me - viva la Kindle and CreateSpace), plus another Indie Author is producing video book trailers for novels.

How is the self publishing experience. Well, I like it. In fact, I think I shall post this comment on my own blog as well.

Thanks for asking Betsy and good luck to you. And if you need any input, networking, promotional advice, feel free to contact me.

Re:
We live and learn...does your work have a title? Don't be discouraged.

I chose Lu Lu because they offer free publishing.
well it was such a lot of work but I enjoyed the challenge. I am not real happy with the end result but it is nice to see my work in print. The books are expensive and no people won't buy them but I will make sure that the family gets them and who knows what may happen next.

Thank you! It was really nice of you to visit, especially not being a writer. That's very cool. I've seen some places that charge a lot to self-publish. That's one reason why I liked lulu. I think my costs came in when I wanted the ISBN number. Other than that, I don't think there were any upfront costs. Anyhow, it's good your friend is writing. We writers can get in a real funk sometimes. Offer your friend all kinds of support. I'm sure he could use it - just like the rest of us. Cheers!

Betsy..my understanding is..

self publishing can be pretty tough.  I know someone who did it.  He is now working on his second book, yet never talks about the failure or success of his first book.   Though we never discussed specific dollar amount, he led me to believe it is not particularly cheap to self publish.  And if you are serious, then there are book signings.  But at least if you are signing books it means someone has been reading it. Right??

My personal  feeling is that this web-site is a pretty good and safe testing ground to see if other people are interested in what you are writing.  That means giving it time, and seeing what kind of response you get to your posts.  Just my opinion, I certainly could be wrong.  I have no interest in writing, other than to share my opinion on sports issues and build up a base of people who are willing to interact with me.

If you decide to self publish, best of luck!!
