you have a good point, I really enjoy reading your views,
my own view is some things can't be explained you have
to have faith.

ginnieb - Re: That idea always blows me away...
It really is a foible of human thinking to accredit God with the determination of all outcomes and give credit for the good fortune of a few in dire circumstances. Yet not think twice about why the disaster or circumstance was caused in the first place. Then as you say the question arises in what was wrong with the people who were not spared? The entire mentality is a throwback to ancient times and an only marginally evolved derivitive of appeasing the wrathful gods.

That idea always blows me away...
...along with the one when some people are saved during a disaster and it was God who saved them.  What about all the other poor souls who he didn't save?  Weren't they worthy?  "God reached in and pulled me out of the mine, the earthquake, the tornado..."  I always think...funny thing that he seemed to forget about that child, woman, man, who weren't saved.  It's all silliness.

Re: don't know much about gobble de gook
mysteria - no doubt that was one of the greatest feats of emergency flying in civil aviation history.

ZenMom - "we cannot know God's will" . . . is a good one
I wish I had a dollar for every time I have heard a variation of this idea to explain away inconsistencies in the believer's mindset. We can only hope that there will come a time in the history of our species when muttering gibberish to imaginary invisible beings is frowned upon. And the same vigor with which it is now promoted, used instead to inspire people into real action.

Xeno-x - all events would have to be neutral if there were a God
Otherwise, this being would be nothing more than an interfering trickster, toying with humanity as the mood to do so arises. . . . but to those who refuse to see this most basic of reasoning, a slew of catch phrases, excuses and nonsense, replace common sense.

I go down the road routinely w/ my family members. They insist that God is present at all times.....he JUST DOESN'T GET INVOLVED. At which point I do my best to be civil as I ask them "Then why the hell to you PRAY to him? If he's NOT going to get involved.......he's NOT going to help you......then why bother asking?" This is when I'm told that "we can't know everything god is thinking..this is where faith begins".

events occur
and they are all neutral.

Jesus said god does not play favorites -- interesting that Jesus was a lot more rational than those who today call themselves Christians.
