Re: Yes, COB not the same as Birth Certificate
You have a good point. However, I have never had to show more than my birth certificate. The COB has a lot of personal information of not just the child but also the mother. Perhaps that is one reason it is not made public - it is a privacy issue of the mother. I don't know. I would like to think everything on Obama was decided to be authentic and legal.

Yes, COB not the same as Birth Certificate
The reason I know this is as someone who was born in a small town I only have in my possession a Certificate of Birth, which is not sufficient in legal terms to prove my birth. Which is why it seems really strange that all Obama has shown is a Certificate of Birth on his web-site, which even that could have been photo-shopped. Wouldn't you think that the President would have to prove his citizenship under at least the same terms other citizens have to prove theirs for work purposes?

Re: Issue of citizenship?
Mmmm - I don't know for sure but I know York, babies (parents) are issued a Certificate of Birth but the actual birth paperwork is filed with the State, I believe. It has a lot more information. How do I know this? I used to be a Deputy Town Clerk and we filed birth death and marriage certificates. Of course, we are such a small town with no hospital, most birth certificates were filed in other towns (with hospitals). But, about once every 10 years we would have a birth that occured in town (like a home). I filed one birth certificate that was more than a page long. It had quite a bit of medical stuff in it. I belive that's what's filed at the state level. It may be the same in Hawaii. If he has a certificate from there it is probably derived from a filed birth certificate in that state.

Issue of citizenship?
Almost hate to bring it up as this seems like a sore point for some, (on both sides), but one area (of many) I think the media gave Obama a pass is on the question of his citizenship. This issue may not mean he is unethical, but I am still not convinced that he is constitutionally allowed to be President. It sure seems like it would have been an easy thing to clear up, and since he didn't...

I know lots of people say he did by posting a copy of his Hawaii "Certificate of Birth" on his web-site, but that does not seem very official. Does anyone know whose legal responsibility it is to ascertain qualifications of the president?
