Re: Corbin_Dallas - Re: Can it not be said..........
Actually, after re-reading your post, I have to agree with what you said........based on your title,  it would not be possible for such a thing to happen.....

Gomedome
I ate this piece and it was so tasty. But it was like sauce that whets the appetite for more. Happy new year, belatedly

Corbin_Dallas - Re: Can it not be said..........

You probably think that your statement is relevent somehow but of course you are willing to ignore a rather important sublety to adhere to the notion that you are implying. Atheism has not once in the recorded history of mankind ever been a motivation for attrocities perpetrated against others in the name of belief. Any example you attempt to give will not refute this statement. There has been at least one atheist mass murderer in recent history in Joseph Stalin, possibly two if Pol Pot is included . . . but their non belief no more motivated their actions than the color of the clothing they wore. Others that propaganda swallowing religionists like to include such as Hirohito, Hitler and Zedung were not by definition atheists. It can also be said that belief in God motivated some of Hitler's actions.

So what was your point again?

"The peace of god, it is no peace"
per the old song.

If anybody wants to use Hitler as an example of an "atheist", it has already been shown that he wasn't.

His views of Jews happened to be taken from the Christian Church's views.

Do you want to go into a history of Europe and its wars -- ever since the Christianisation of Europe -- through the Second World War, these Christian nations waged continual war against each other -- Christian against Christian -- extended it to the New World.

Christians massacred Native Americans, enslaved Africans, subjected Africans to some of the worst atrocities on the face of the Earth, and hated "Niggers".

It's like when Paul was speaking of the Ten Commandments and the Law -- Killing is a greater sin than stealing, but if one steals, one still commits sin.  And if one steals a penny, that is as much of a sin as if one steals a million dollars.

Sin is sin.  And Christians have sinned.  And certainly on a par with the greatest atrocities committed by Hitler or Stalin.

God said he would send his punishment against a hypocritical nation.  Don't you sometimes that Christians are the greatest hypocrites of all?  What kind of punishment do you think is awaiting Christians?

OTA. - that is the ultimate irony
The attrocities mankind has historically perpetrated in the name of God is a long long list of obfuscated self justification.

Xeno-x - Re: prophetic hallucinations
"hallucinations" . . is a good way of describing what some people allow themselves to see in terms of biblical prophecies. We see all types of attempts to make what was written so many years ago fit wherever it can be made to fit. Amazing fellows those biblical authors; despite not even knowing about the atom for example, they were according to some, able to predict nuclear wars and other things that they could not possibly know about.

Re: prophetic hallucinations
Compared to eternity, two millennia is extremely short.

Your "piece" is the view held by many.  As for me, I would rather rely on the peace of God than the "piece" of gomedome.   Go to fullsize image

Can it not be said..........
that atheist rulers have killed many millions of people than any religious war?

Gomedome, Referring to your title.. it is the saddest thing to me that "religion" is used as an excuse for any sort of war. The core of most every "religion" is Love. ~peace

prophetic hallucinations
are the result of misreading the Bible.

If someone can demonstrate beyond a doubt that anything in those pages pertains to today . . . then . . .

but even the Book of Revelation -- in the first chapter the writer tells us that it is about "things that shall SHORTLY come to pass".  I don't thing two millennia after the writing is "short".

Re: What bible do you read? lol
TexasGem - nice collection of canned comebacks. All I can add is that if there was such a thing as the "word of God" . . . it would not be subject to such limited distribution. As for Jesus returning . . . who knows, maybe generation 81 will be luckier than the 80 dissapointed generations that came before.

What bible do you read? lol
I am one of the dupes who has bought into the word of God. I'd rather live like there is a God only to find out there's not than to live like there is no God only to learn in the end there is. Hang on to your prophecies of no God and share them again after Jesus returns for those who are looking for Him. Blessings!
