Re: Re:
Biblical accuracy implies that you confine yourself to the actual contents of the Bible, and don't add scenes or dialogue inconsistent with the Biblical accounts.  Gibson did, deliberately making the Jews more hateful than is justified by the story in the Bible.  And allegations of anti-Semitism against Gibson stem largely from his tirade about how all wars in human history were caused by Jews.  He is an ignorant, hateful man.  And his movies, the ones he directed, suck.  They're all boring blood fests.

Re:

Okay I've said the bible is always up for debate so I don't know about this Biblical accuracy stuff.

If the Jews or Jewish heirarchy wanted him dead and the Romans appeased them then that is the truth, not racist. Is Mel Gibson an anti-Semite or simply tired of Jewish domination in the film industry is something I can't answer. I think only he can.

In the end it was just an incredibly boring blood-fest.

I've never watched The Passion, and don't plan too.  I've read enough about it to know that, while Mel Gibson insisted he was trying for Biblical accuracy, he mangled the Biblical story to heap guilt on the Jews.  Yes, he deliberately lied in his movie, and yes, he is a virulent anti-Semite.  I agree with you, mordent, about the triviality of a movie filled entirely with torture, but one thing Christians always ignore in the crucifixion story is the Jesus was, supposedly, God, so he felt exactly what he wanted to feel, and nothing more.  Personally, I've never been able to admire or see any value in self-flagellation.

Do Not Get Me Wrong

Now Ben Hur was excellent but I also received much from The Passion, as well, but in a different way. I also will say that anything that Charlton Heston was involved in was great. He was a great actor.

Even xeno and some others on here may give kudos to Heston as well because he did a great job in the historical documentary of xeno's ancestry, Planet of the Apes!

Sorry xeno, just kidding, could not resist.

Re: Re:

You're not raining on the parade as I welcome other opinions quite a bit. I'm glad someone else seems to have an opinion on it.

You see I'm an actor/writer so I look at films quite differently than most people. You were lookiing for accuracy and I'm sure it's quite possible that the torture was accurate.

My point is I personally am unstimulated by a film thats composed mostly of torture.

Re:

Difficult to watch, yes. Bloody, yes. I remember when the movie was over my wife and I got up and walked out with everyone else and you could have heard a pin drop or an ant walking on the floor after some popcorn. Nobody said a word, even while we filed out onto the street, nothing but silence.

Then again with the difficulty, blood and silence maybe this religious movie depicted it the closest of any of those. Maybe this one was the most accurate and maybe that is why we had the reactions that all of us did while watching this movie. Personally, since I was not there at the time of the crucifixion I can not say which movie was more accurate.

Just a thought. Sorry did not want to rain on the parade.

The Passion was a difficult movie to watch! The Catholics were very enamored over it being made one of their followers! sam
