I agree totally! To take these spaces without a disability is just rude! sam

Re:
If there is a valid sticker, I don't say anything. But I should have added to my piece that an equally frustrating event is when the sticker is being used by a non-disabled family member. The sticker is not meant as a 'convenience'. It is a means of allowing a disabled person access to an establishment by recognizing that it takes extra space to unload a wheelchair, or it is often dangerous for a disabled person to park further away (in the case of Simone's friend).

It is terrible for an able body p[erson to take a space designated for handicapped but sometimes able looking people are more handicapped than if they were in a wheelchair. A friend of mine who has a very delicate heart condition was issued a handicapped sticker. On her way out of her car a man acosted her and told her off telling her she had no right to park there and even less to own the permit. She was really upset and even got ill over the incident. We can not judge by apearances... but the looking for the permits its a good idea :-)

Well I agree with your feelings and in Ontario here, there is a huge fine to pay for stealing a handicapped parking space luv

Re:
Christy, here in VA, the fine can be pretty hefty. Cops do take it seriously, especially when they see me. As for you, PLEASE get one. Anyone reading your blog knows what you struggle with. You are entitled to one.

Whenever I see an able-bodied person emerge from a car parked in a handicapped space, I always do what a good friend of mine used to do; I shout "hallelujah" and raise my hands to the sky. That usually embarrasses the offending parker to the point that they slink back to the car and find another place.

Here, here Sista Sarah!
Roommie has such identification, but I need to get one as well. My mum does the driving, but I constantly tell her not to park in those areas unless we have the tag with us because I can walk and it isn't fair to those who may really need it.
Unfortunately here in Maine, people just don't give a damn. A few years ago when our Wal-Mart first opened, I chewed out a lady in a parking lot because she parked in a space she obviously didn't need. She threw me daggars, but drove off. I was with my cousin at the time and it totally embarrassed her, but I couldn't have cared less about that.
Several years ago I was informed that it's up to the state you live in whether or not to impliment fines to those who park in designated areas without the proper identification...what a load of bull dung!...
