The right choice
Very important to let C and your daughter know where you stand, in fact in the past I believe my kids actually occasionally appreciated me laying down the law in front of their friends

It couldn't be more opposite. Your daughter from a loving home and the friend, drugs and alcohol as a parental background. I am glad you stuck to your guns. I think there may be some jealousy on the part of the friend which may explain her aggressive behavior! You seem to read people very well. I think with you in your daughter's corner she is going to be fine. I did the same with my children and they confide and talk through things as young adults. You are doing a great job by being so available for your daughter! sam
