I agree with your point, sam
But remember that most good quarterbacks are only as good as the ability of their offensive line to protect them, and the receivers' ability to both catch and run with the ball.  Even great quarterbacks who seem to succeed with inferior protection are limited by the capabilities of their receivers.  And proven quarterbacks tend to be quite expensive.  I think the Lions need to draft much more wisely, and need to shop for unheralded solid backup players with powerhouse teams.  A lot of the subs on strong teams are better than many of the starters on teams like the Lions and the Bengals.

Detroit needs a quarterback desperately. When is the last time we could say there was a good quarterback? I thought of Gary Danielson, and he was taken off the assembly line and only had that one good year. We made it to the playoffs and got ousted in the first round. But honestly there hasn't been a real good quarterback in Detroit! sam

Thanks, sam
I appreciate your good wishes for my Heels, and I agree that the Lions have a chance for a decent future.  Right now the Lions have nowhere to go but up.  As pessimistic as that may sound, sometimes it's necessary for a team to bottom out, especially when it wasn't expected, it they can move back up the ladder.  High draft picks, carefully selected, and the salary cap that gives them some room to wheel and deal, may be the salvation of the franchise.  I just hope they manage to win at least one game before the inevitable retooling begins.
