Re: squirrels
what a lovely experience. Isn't it one of the best feelings in the world to gain the trust of an animal?

Re:
Your comments are very wise, we seem to have travelled so far from this fundamental simbiosis, and I wonder how on earth we can get back to it.

Re: squirrels
TAPS I'm so glad you found a friendly solution to your squirrel problem. it's hard to like something that's being a pest!

Animals are sometimes more "humane" and kind than us humans. Great post!

This tells how that we are an ecological group that feeds on one another. Would it not be great if all mankind appreciated the symbiosis of man and nature; man and man; man and animal; and everyone on every other?

There was a time I became enemies with a squirrel because I had decided to grow a potted tomato plant on my deck.  The tomato vine was doing wonderfully well and it became loaded with large tomatoes, and I couldn't wait to ripen on the vine.  A squirrel decided the tomatoes were his and would pick them just when they first became tinged with rosy color.  What I hated most was that he would only eat a small portion of each and leave it on the ballustrade and pick another.  He ruined every one of them before I could get a ripe one.  I finally figured out that grapes were the answer.  I put out a string of individual grapes each day and he left the tomatoes alone from then on.

squirrels

moving.

my most memorable squirrel encounter remains one from my very young days. i had a few nuts in my hand and a squirrel stood looking at me. i approached it as it made no move and squatted down with my hand open. this little quite pie came up and nibbled the nuts right off my hand. you know, even now, at the slightest reminiscence of that day i can feel the nuzzling of its nose on my hand :)
