This is such a great blog - all of your posts - bent on repairing rather than tearing apart.  Keep at it!  Mal

muley
One of the arts of listening, according to Zen Buddhism, is that this listening be double-arrowed - one, directed at the speaker, and the other, at oneself - to what one is listening. Being conscious in such manner does not allow one to start arguing in the mind in between what one is hearing. He then is like a spread of liquid cement; whatever falls, holds. This is a secret, and worth practising.

I'm with sam here. I try to be a good listener. Although, I have to admit it's not totally selfless. Listening gives me endless ideas for stories and even articles, but as listening also benefits the speaker I think I might be forgiven.

You bring a vital issue to the table ...

... I use to "sleep on it" as a 'total' understanding but, also as a communication to the one I've listened to. Much work is done through the night -  - genio

True True Mike. If your mouth is operating your ears do not seem to work. It is also a good idea to sit on your hands when you need to listen..
