I think you're right. That's also my definition of intuition; we perceive more than just what enters our consciousness, and parts of our brains process that information, offering answers when needed. Sadly, however, the stock market dropped again, so maybe the book got it wrong after all.

possible reason why some of these oracles seem to work is that the person consulting such an oracle has already come to a conclusion subconsciously and if they know the cards or book really well they can then pick a relevant answer, again subconsciously. Our minds are sometimes much more powerful than we consciously know. Something that happens too frequently to me to ignore as pure chance is that I often open a book to look for a passage and it opens right there were I wanted to be without having read that particular page more or more recently than any other page, which is what gave me the idea mentioned above.

Here's the thing (or at least a thing) -- if all those highly trained
and experienced educated economics experts don't know the answer, your mystic pages or one of those 8-balls are probably as reliable as any other oracular source.
