Lingering on
This instinctive tendency has driven people to distort the message and force it into the mold of the patriarchal model. Admittedly the message was to a large degree cast into such a mold too, otherwise nobody would have given it any attention at the time. In most humans the reptilian brain overrides the will of the rational mind. We can't do much to change that. The only way I personally can see to get Christianity back to the message of the Kingdom that is always at hand, inside us, and thereby change our perceptions of the outside world (into the Kingdom of God as the Universe/Reality as opposed to the world ruled by misgivings and Idols with a warlike nature) is to beat the drum of love for Truth and our neighbors louder than the drum of superiority over and exclusion of the neighbors that gets beaten by the older type of patriarch we often find as leaders in churches.
