I believe eight-year-olds understand quite a bit. That you knew enough
to go along to get along, and that you knew the consequences for asking quetions, shows that you were taking things into account and deciding if they were rational, even as a young boy. Welcome to the outer darkness. You will never be alone. :)

Definitely. But wait until they're adults, and they've pretty much lost interest. Unless you indoctrinate them along the way.
