I think it is a price factor. I submitted a poetry book for the heck of it and they (cant remember the name) wanted $10,000 to do the work. Good luck; it is a tough decision. sam

Mia
Although I’ve not yet done it myself, I’ve been encouraged by a number of people to self-publish (get the book into local book stores, a copy in every library in your area, and have it available for purchase on-line, of course).  The thinking behind this is that you’ll get your work out there and even if you don’t sell a gazillion copies you’ll have completed something and put it out there.  I’m going to try it….

I have a few friends who published with Lulu.com
they seem pretty happy with it.

I've also been trying to self-publish.  My advice is- keep going! Have you considered entering any contests where the prize is publication?  Writer's Market is a great resource.  Good luck!

Miaella, I have been thinking of publishing  some of my work and that of my husbands also,  Its a daunting thought...so much I don't know, so much to find out and even if one puts the money it would cost aside, there is a lot of risk involved...  but all things considered, I think I am going to do it...  even the thought of it is exciting isn't it :-)  Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :-)
