The Independents are Meeting
I happened to catch some of Jesse Ventura's speech to the 3rd party convention that is also meeting this week in Minneapolis.  When he talked about how Ross Perot still garnered 1 out of every 5 votes, earning him 30 million in public PAC funds.  Then during the next election, they wouldn't allow the third party candidate to take  part in the debates.  Remember how Ralph Nader was blocked out??  They took the League of Women Voters out of the mix and formed a bureaucratic office of the government that was a bi-partisan commission formed to run future presidential debates. Third parties, such as the Green Party (Nader) or the Independents (?) need not apply.  It sure made me think of what I had written to you re: "TPTB" in our national government.

Just had to respond
I didn't vote for the charismatic Reagon.....maybe my own Parkinson's brain let me intuit there was something not quite all right upstairs (likes know likes?)  He had damned good hair though.

No, I backed a third party candidate TWICE against the popular Mr. Reagan, the celebrity movie star of B films, and people told me then and still ask me, "Why did you waste your vote?" I never felt I wasted my vote.  I voted!!

I've read enough legitimate accounts over the years to let me know there is a "Power That Be" force in our government. It got Monica out of the way after she embarrassed the highest office in the land with her youthful and truthful accounts.  They succeeded in getting the pluckiest little capitalist I ever heard, who garnered two terms worth of MY votes, to pull out 3 weeks prior to the election in 1980 (i think).  He did run afterall, but only after his momentum had been quelled effectively and he was never a threat again.  Oh yes, 'they' are dangerous; had little Monica glancing over her shoulder during her one & only post-bill interview with 'Baba.'  She DID mention she didn't know that men like that existed in OUR government and then she got quiet. Real quiet. For years now quiet.

Democrat, Republican, if 'they' want you in, you're in.  Third parties need not apply.

I have no doubt about who will get my vote this November (as long as I do not die of natural causes first, while in the shower; i.e., a karate chop to the neck...)  I will vote my conscience, whether it's popular or not.  I want a person with backbone and intelligence.  I heard him deliver a speech that convinced me last night.  I can't survive another four more years like my husband and I, personally, have suffered economically in the last eight.

No vote is ever wasted, btw.  It's a waste when one doesn't cast a vote for whomever they can consciencely support.

A Native Kansan,
Cee
