The simple answer is this:
holding a place for somebody in your heart is never wasted, if you love somebody in some way then allow yourself to love them, but continue your life, evaluate each new aspirant to your love independently of the love you hold for anybody else. Love is absolute, not comparative, but I believe it is also inclusive.
And if you choose to wait for somebody and they do not wait for you, then I suspect that the process will have taught you lessons that you needed to learn. Always be faithful to your heart, not somebody else's.

sometimes i feel exactly like you describe, Sinome, but sometimes i feel like you say Sam..
well.. I've asked and keep asking God to sort out my heart... but still there are some strings that are easy touched...

Looking back keeps one from moving forward! I don't know that waiting is good, one could miss the very best in front of them. Just to tough to call, it would be individual. I know I spent time waiting for someone to return and it just was futile! sam

It is a beautiful song Gold Dust, but Ota and Kabu are right... it is dangerous to wait too long for something that may never come... now, if you are a dansing fool like me and you always take the side of your heart no matter if your head tells you differently, then my dear I say good for you, it is sweet you feel your love is comming back and you are keeping a place in your heart for him, why not? if when you think of him you tremble with anticipation, if just the memory of his kiss makes you warm all over and you do not want any other to touch you because he owns your soul...then my dear wait, wait for him because there is nothing better than to love someone like that. ..and if it does not happen...well...you'll deal with that then.

Sometimes if the separation is too many years then the thought
of the love may be more of a dream than the reality. People change, it's so hard to go back.
