Re: purple amphibian...?
Naut, you have found one of the many moveable holes in my brain...  Which purple amphibian do you refer to?

Ciel
OMG, you're so right! Which reminds me: whatever happened to the purple amphibian?

Sira,
I like the pickled carrot and daikon radish garnish on Thai dishes... And how about pickled asparagus, and green beans...

Re: Sira

LOL Ciel! Have you ever tried pickled carrots? It sounds strange, but they are so tasty it should be illegal!

And that does seem like a glaring lack of fun in the emotes! I mean, really...how are we supposed to express ourselves without a good picture of a pickle?

Cheers, Tangy Dill

Harderup,

the first time I saw it, it was from a relatively new blogger who's not American.   But I know what you mean: Americans seem to often operate from the heart...  which in terms of chakras, is all about affinity (not love, actually),  a cultural thing.  It's why so many other, more reserved societies see Americans as overly-familiar.

Sira,
if you need to differentiate, there are dill and gherkin and bread'n'butter and garlic and kosher... not to mention pickled pig's feet and cabbage and beets and... And why don't we have an emote for pickles?

I call a lot of people "darling"

I do it in real life too. But it's not because I'm overly affectionate. I'm just really bad with names...calling a person "darling" seems much nicer than saying "hey, you there!".

Perhaps I'll go for something closer to the middle, and start calling everyone "whats-'er-pickle".

Cheugon
I've been feeling it coming on for a while, this post.  I have wondered whether I was the only one bothered by it.

Thank you for writing this post, Ceil...
...wish I'd have written it myself.
I've commented on e-mail, how annoyed I get at the groveling endearments some bloggers exchange on comment pages.
And I don't mean the joking around and bantering back and forth, which is a good thing, but, rather the over-expression of affection, which, from what I've observed is often over-done...like something out of high school.

Ceil,

I've just said my piece on this subject, and I may very well be banned for it...
