Yeah, Talion... sounds like you would not have a lot of fun collaborating.

LARPing's biggest challenge is letting go of that feeling that you're being just plain ridiculous.  It helps to choose a sort of character that begins either stiff and dignified, or one that is just plain nuts so anything you do you can blame on the character. 

In our vampire games, the various clans of vampires accomodated both types.  My Columbina was among a sort of vampire mafia clan.  That is how the story got set in Italy, in fact.

I've played Dungeons and Dragons and a host of other role playing games since I was thirteen, but that was just a group of friends sitting around a table rolling a bunch of oddly-shaped dice.  I've never considered taking role-playing any further. It sounds interesting, but I would feel a bit silly.

After reading what kind of person your writing partner was, I'm not surprised his enthusiasm faded. Alas, it was doomed from the start. That's another thing that sounds interesting, but I'd never do. I'm a know-it-all and a control freak when it comes to my writing. I doubt I could collaborate with anyone.
