Bel, I agree--I think it is the way some people try to feel good about

themselves... to feel better than others, or at least smarter.  When in fact, they are proving they are none of those things.

Ceil

I don't mind the respectful discussions, in fact while I normally won't comment on anything politics or religion, I will follow.   Unfortunately, there are some who seem to thrive on causing nastiness and it just struck me today how much of a waste that really is.  I can't imagine one can be really happy and that angry at the same time.  It just seems so sad to me.

thanks so much!

Must be something in the air...

Bhaskar wrote on this today--about the usefulness of ignoring.

Yet, there are some in our Blogisphere who are always courteous and willing to engage in discussion with those who disagree in a gentile manner.  These make some of the best conversations to follow along with, or to participate in!

I agree Shelly
one thing I learned during my Wife days was that we all have our opinions and no matter how much you debate something, most of us don't like changing our mind.

I'm quite passionate about a number of important issues. My opinions are strong and unwavering (unless shown startling evidence that I am wrong), but for the most part, I keep them to myself. I'm not ashamed of my positions and can defend them when necessary. I simply choose not to do so here. There's one thing I learned about people at a young age, but only after joining Blogit did I put it in words. If you tell a damn fool what a damn fool he/she is, all you get is a damn fool that's mad at you. It applies to most people at some point, even to me.
