TAPS,

The Great Smokies are the southern end of the Appalachians, and are named for the mists that wander smoke-like through them.  The Blue Ridge part of the Appalachians are named for views like this one, ridge upon ridge, fading into the distance with an increasing blue cast.

Does that help at all?  I have not been in the Smokies since I was 17, and mostly remember Cade's Cove.

Ciel, I hate to be ignorant, but whenever I was there, I never could figure out whether I was in the Great Smoky Mountains or the Blue Ridge Mountains.  I know when I was on Clingman's Dome that I was in the Smoky Mountains.  It seems to me that the two must be interchangeable or one a part of the other or something.  Clue me in here, will you?  I've got pictures that I have never known how to label.  On top of that, I think I knew that I was in the Appalachian Mountains when I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail but I was in Great Smoky Mountain National Park and could see the Blue Ridge Mountains (so the sign said).  Am I confused or what?
