Re Alzhiemers
I have hospice aides 2x/wk and nurses 2x/week and a volunteer who comes to let me go out once a week. Because I have fibromyalgia and CFS, we qualify for a caregiver assistant through the VA. She comes in 4 hours a day 5 days a week to help me with the house and cooking. I have however been up for almost 3 weeks so We are going to have a 5 day respite care this coming week so I can rest and sleep. God works in wonderful ways and i was so worried how to accomplish this without hurting him and him thinking I was shipping to a nursing home. But when I got up after being up almost all night, he said why don't you put me in a nursing home. I told him about respite care and he agreed and thought it was wonderful. He can go for 5 days and then come home. I am so relieved. skye

Skye, you tell your story beautifully, even though it is a sad story and one that seems to have no good ending. I have so much respect and compassion for you as wife and caregiver. How difficult it is to daily see the decline and be able to do nothing to stop it or even to slow it down. I understand what you do on a day-in-and-day-out basis. I have been there as a nurse and as a care giver for my dad. I watched my mother grieve for the one she loved. For her he died years before he passed away.
