Re: Sira890

Ah, Mac, but I am genuinely interested!

Never had a visit (or a call) from the scientists though--they're another group I'd like to learn more about!

Sira890
Be careful, Sira.  I tried that 'genuinely interested' tactic with scientologists a long time ago - and it took me ages and ages to get them to stop calling.

Re: Sira

LOL Naut! I can just imagine how that conversation would go--if they come back, you'll have to remember to share the tale!

Re: I think it's great that you talked to them Sira....

ginnie,

I didn't ever think of it like that, but I suppose they probably do see the business end of quite a few doors. I used to get really angry with them, for being so presuming and trying to convince everyone and their dogs to convert. I've calmed down, it seems, in my old age, and have decided that maybe they're not ignorant, but just filled with conviction.

I'm picturing the image of them on the indian reserve, and getting a good chuckle! Thanks for reading, and for sharing the comical scene!

Sira
Ah yes, the Watch Tower folks. Haven't seen any on my doorstep in years - although I was nice to them the last time! Maybe they have sort of given up on the whole neighbourhood, or maybe they come around when I'm not here, 'Hey, it's safe now, Naut's gone'...If any do show up again, I think this time I'll try to convert them! I'm not sure to what, I guess I'll have to wing...

I think it's great that you talked to them Sira....
...they must have lots of doors slammed in their faces.  I once saw a couple of JW's on a remote Indian reservation in Arizona.  The scene was quite comical...two guys in suits talking to people whose spirituality runs deeper than the land they are on. I was actually angry that the JW's would even try to impose their beliefs on the natives but one native woman reassured me that they weren't doing any harm...I was impressed with her gentleness and acceptance.  We'll stay tuned to Part II of your visit!

What an interesting and at the same time entertaining read......
It brought back memories of that knock on the door that aggravated my mother so......the Watch Tower....I hadn't thought about that little publication for years.  Thanks for sharing and in the process dusting off some hidden memories from one's childhood.....

Re: I've had Jehova's witnesses live in some of the apartment communities,

Just goes to show you, there are slackers and cheats and brats in every group!

It was truly my pleasure, and I had a wonderful time! I just can't believe it took me this long to discover the hilarity that is your blog!

Re: The JWs have put me on their "do not call" list...

LOL Pat! Congratulations on the victory! Did you know, they actually have a few group meetings a week to rid themselves of the negative influences of "normal" people--I'm sure they pray for us sinners, and remind themselves that we're actually misguided, even though our arguments have some rings of truth.

I bet that lady had to attend a few extra services, thanks to you

I've had Jehova's witnesses live in some of the apartment communities,
and what I found entertaining, in at least two cases, was the fact that they are supposed to ride their bicycles to witness, but these two (separate incidences), always drove to a parking lot somewhere, took their bikes down, and rode the nearby neighborhood.  One pair left the most destroyed apartments I've seen in 23 years of working in the industry.  Other than that, I've not seen a Jehova's witness at my door in many years.  Hey, thanks for stopping by last night Sira, lol.  Glad you had a good time

The JWs have put me on their "do not call" list...

I made a point of being pleasant but unconvinced, thanked them for their interest, but suggested they should hand out their materials to someone who would read it. After several months I finally scared one of their missionaries. She was the leader, did most of the talking. I'd been making quiet little counterpoints -- saw the wheels turning a time or two as she got a bit of my point.

Then I asked if they weren't afraid to come to my house. She asked why. "Aren't you afraid some of my ideas may make you challenge your beliefs?" A shadow passed across her face. The next mission was two other people. I maintained my serene questioning of their selling points. Then suddenly it stopped. They haven't been by for months. Halleluja!
