Like Taps' great grandparents, mine were also there in the early 1900's -
they settled in Texas - Rosenberg and Wharton. Last name, Macha. I can only imagine the way they felt seeing this graceful lady welcoming them to freedom. My great grandpa didn't trust banks and kept his money in coffee cans he buried beneath the dirt in his garage (no cement floors in the garages back then).

My Grandma and Grandpa Jelinek from Czechoslovakia were in that place in 1900. They made a place for themselves and their children in the coal mine country of Missouri. It was a hard life for them here, but they never regretted coming to America and they were very proud to be American citizens after their naturalization.
