There is a headlong rush to this poem that is difficult to describe.
It's kind of like running around in an unfamiliar place and suddenly being confronted with a very personal realization.  Well done...

So it goes ...
If Kurt Vonnegut wrote a poem ... you got the feel!

I can see why you haven't gotten any comments. It's not exactly what makes the heart beat strong (but pounding if you're there). No one wants to be in battle, nor witness or be part of carnage. Very vivid, almost like I was there, but where? WWI, II, Korea, Nam, or Africa today? Perhaps all. I was about to be shipped to Nam when the bell rang, and I was happy it did. But I still remember the mental prep. I used to carry Michevelli around with me--about the 50/50 chance. The question in the back of my mind was if I could die well. But when it happens, you're not even thinking about that, and you just do your training. Not something I want to re-visit, but somehow thankful some would write about it.

Poignant poem, well written and incredibly real.  the ending was climactic and perfect.  I am sorry if this is autobiographical, sorry for what you went through and what you are still suffering.  Good luck to you and G-d bless
