Re: Hey love I agree with Pat B

Beware The Vanity Publishers!

I've had to really focus when looking for potential publishers and agents, to avoid getting caught in the vanity trap!

Glad you managed to avoid them, and best of luck to you!

Re: Welcome to the club, Sira...

LOL Pat!

I had that same conversation with myself yesterday, in the shower just after I wrote this post! "I'm going to be big one day, and then he'll be sorry!"

I like the pre-published author term--sounds much better than unpublished!

Thanks for reading, and for making me smile!

Re: Just gotta hang in there, think dispassionately about

You're right Norwood, the stars will twinkle. And the sun will shine (once it's stopped raining, of course...).

And I'll keep going, sending stuff out and hoping for the best!

Re: Azur is right Sira

I think you and Azur are exactly right, Norwood! Writing is a very personal sort of thing, and there is a lot of "me" in those pages. It's only natural that having them rejected would sting!

I haven't really taken a hard look at this novel in about a month now, as I've been busy with other, unfinished projects. Perhaps it's time to take another read through, and give it a few tweaks!

Thanks for reading, and for the great advise!

Re: Sira

No Naut, I don't do trips! Besides, every day is a vacation in Sira Land

I felt a great sense of pride at having finished the book. And I celebrated that accomplishment for a long time. But now I'm ready for the next accomplishment, and the next reason to celebrate--and I want it now (patience has never been one of my strong points...).

Congratulations on freeing yourself from the shackles of gaming--there should be a support group for hopelessly addicted gamers!

Re: If.........................................................................

I've never looked good in hats...

I think you're right though--anything worth doing is worth struggling to do. Having a book published is no different.

Thanks for the kind words and advice!

Hey love I agree with Pat B
keep going, I nearly got caught up in one of those vanity publishers recently. They are to be avoided unless you have stacks of money and just want your book printed. Good luck!!!1

Welcome to the club, Sira...

You're a pre-published author. One of these days your book will sell, and that agent will kick herself around the block for letting you slip through her fingers. (what I tell myself...)

Keep writing!

Just gotta hang in there, think dispassionately about
how to make it more attractive to a company and keep going and continue............remember the  have to twinkle every night.

Azur is right Sira

Rejection letters sting so much because when you write your texts you put so much of yourself into them, your passion, your soul and your 'you'. The thing is not to take them too seriously and say they have bad taste not to like my writing or see something positive in their rejection.

It is also good to put away the novel and then pull it out a month or two down the track and read it as a reader and not as the composer or the writer.

Sira
I was wondering if you had gone on a trip without telling us! Rejections? Well, at least you're in a position to have a book rejected, something most of us will never experience, including me, LOL. But this gaming business can be addictive, even with simple games. I used to play poker on the net for a while, even made a little money, but it was beginning to take up too much of my time...These days I stay away from games, aside from the odd game of scrabble or Peggle...

If.........................................................................
being published was easy, it would not be worth so much. One has to grit their teeth for the rejection letters. I don't think that becomes easier but with luck and determination, and good writing those letters become interspersed with the other type. It's good to send out a few and  see if they fly, then it's good to really identify an agent or two. We have to wear two hats I think - the creative and the marketer.
