The 'Media' very rarely report good news - after all it would make you smile and they can't have that, can they?  And, if there isn't enough dreary news, they'll make it up.   Smile please.

Re: I don't know. I think the news must seem worse if you live in a blackout

LOL Azur! Sorry if I hit a button!

It's not the news casts or journalists that upset me--it's the subject matter. News casts and quality journalism play an integral part of our world, but it sure would be nice if we'd stop giving them nothing but horrors to report!

I'm waiting for the day that good news is the leading story--wishful thinking on my part, I'm sure.

Thanks for reading, and for the thought provoking comment!

Re: Sira890

Sounds like a good plan Wiley! You don't want the nasty world intruding on your happy little home with Kabu!

Re: Minnie Pearl, of the Grand Ol' Opry in years gone by, had a saying

LOL Pat! And as an added bonus, I've actually heard of Miss Minnie Pearl! I've never heard that quote before though--what a gem!

Thanks for reading, and for making me smile

Re: I pick and choose my information.

I don't mind hearing the odd story--especially the ones about medical advances and that sort of thing. It's all the hatred and violence that gets to me, and those seem to be the stories they lead with!

Thanks for reading

I don't know. I think the news must seem worse if you live in a blackout
then only emerge from it at times. Not that hearing it every day makes you blase either. You hit a bad day. Myanmar, formerly Burma, that cyclone is a terrible event like the tsunami in Asia or the earthquake in Turkey both some years ago. I used to work on world news so it is hard for me to look at it purely as consumer because I understand news gathering, reporting and production too although I only ever worked for quality publications. I am not very big on ultra commercial networks and I too don't give a hoot about Britney or Paris. I have highly intelligent friends who like gossip stuff just for leisure but they don't take it seriously. Ie - they  like to compare the best of the gossip that is made up.

I  think we need to  know  a bit  of what's going on  in the world. I don't read crime stories much or traffic accidents. Today I  was writing about rising global food prices and how that impacts on us.  We live in the world we live in and shutting of the news doesn't make it go away. Ok, I'm gone. Bit of a pet topic for a journalist and former journalism teacher.

I totally agree with you luv, the less news I hear about the happier I am. I cancelled the newspaper I was getting months ago and I only get the Globe and Mail once a week, mostly to read the commercial ads of printing machinery bankruptcies. Great post luv

Minnie Pearl, of the Grand Ol' Opry in years gone by, had a saying
that seems to fit today's theme: "If ignorance is bliss, then I'm the world's biggest blister."

It's good to have a media fast sometimes.

I pick and choose my information.
I'm so with you on this.

It's your decision. I need to know what's going on, but if it makes you feel too ill, then by all means leave the news alone.
