It's strange that, as writers, we're expected to find our own "voice" in order to be successful and original.  Don't you find that odd?  I'd expect it of vocalists and musicians, but writers?  How about our own "style" or "expression"?  Nice observation about maturing and saying what matters, though!

I agree. It's a process of discovery.
I personally believe that the perfect you is already in existence, but you are just discovering you, your voice, one facet at a time.  Unearthing SEEDLINGS, if you will.  The one part I would differ with you on, I think, is when you wrote "... something I 'should have' said but hadn't had the time..."  There are no mistakes or regrets in the big picture.  Perfect intelligence in divine plan.  Perfect planning in divine intelligence.
