Amen, Sira Sister!
"as much as I can see failure on the horizon, I'm hoping for the best. I've convinced myself that amazing things will happen, if I'm willing to make them my reality."

It is great you had the wisdom and the courage
to seize this opportunity. No matter what becomes of your novel. It will all help along the way.

I do firmly believe that it is not a job for the faint of heart and that anyone who can be deterred should be deterred because if they are so easily deterred they should not be writers.

That is not to say that people shouldn't write. I recommend it to anyone.

I will not be taking that 'real' job because it is far from who I am now. I had some great 'real' jobs but I chose this life a long time ago.

In spite of illness, and keeping and caring for a family, crazy freelancing and a few other things, I wrote 20,000 words of fiction already this year, and two short stories both submitted, so I think there is hope  for me.

Thank you for your post. Well done you!

Re: I so related to your post. Not the ill part but the creative lust that

Kabu,

It's a high like no other! We'll find that publisher, lurking in a bush somewhere--I'm starting to learn that patience and persistence are the name of the game!

Thanks for reading

Re: Sira

Troosha,

I am proud of the accomplishment, although I'd feel much more at ease if I knew there'd be some success at the end of the road.

Ah, well--I'll keep puttering along, and hoping for the best!

Thanks for reading

Re: Congrats, Sira! I hope your book does sell... but beware..

Pat,

I almost learned that lesson the hard way--there are so many companies out there, preying on the hopes and dreams of writers (talented or otherwise), it's like walking a tight-rope trying to sort out the good guys from bad!

Lucky for me, I have a few connections to the publishing world. They might not sign me, but they'll be a huge help in getting me on the right track and keeping me there!

Good luck indeed--I've got my fingers crossed (it makes typing a bit tricky, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!).

I so related to your post. Not the ill part but the creative lust that
bringing characters to life and writing, writing, writing. WQell done and good luck and lets see if we can both find that allusive publisher.

Sira
See… some things happen for a reason.  You may have lost that corporate job for health reasons but it inspired you to pursue your passion of writing.  I bet you are very proud when you look at those 300 some odd pages.  Good for you for sticking with it!

Congrats, Sira! I hope your book does sell... but beware..
there are "book doctors" and so-called agents out there who make their living off the dreams of authors. They sound helpful enough, their ads offer the services of a published writer, someone who knows the ins and outs of the sales game. I know you've heard about "Writer's Market" (also online) but if not, head to your local library, reference section. They'll have copies of that one, and "Guide to Literary Agents."  Reputable resources.  I've found selling is harder than the writing. But I'm still trying.  Good luck to both of us!!!
