Comments on Contra Ben Stein and 'Expelled' - Part I

TAPS, my dear,

Let me answer that question now, and the answer is very simple: Darwinists [and that is a term Darwinists don't use because evolutionary insights have gone way beyond Darwin, but we'll let is stand, lol] may be afraid of tornadoes, mice, spiders and other creepy things, even death and taxes, but they're not afraid about anything having to do with their being 'Darwinists'. And they have absolutely nothing to hide, other than maybe having cheated on their wives or having fudged their tax return...

The reason I am being deliberately facetious here is simply that Stein's question and assertions are nonsense! Either he knows that by putting things that way he creates the impression that what he alludes to is actually the case; that makes him dishonest. Or he actually believes it, which makes him a fool. Either way he has no evidence, as you shall see, because it ain't the case! To quote good old Gertrude Stein again, 'There's nothing there, there...'

Why does he do it? Dunno! I just know that a search for the truth isn't one of his motives. On the other hand, I think he's got a pretty good idea of the market where he is peddling this nonsense...

Re:
Thanks, sam! Of course, this is Shermer's composition, not my own, but I fully agree with it, and I'm posting it to save myself some work...

Re: great blog Naut. I'm not a creationist or whatever, I have no problem with

Kabu, you're a wise lady, and you are absolutely right! "Faith can't be defined in scientific terms, you either have it, or you don't."

The problem is that many believers want to 'substantiate' their belief 'scientifically' - it's not only that it can't be done, it isn't necessary! It is not necessary to believe in the Bible's literal truth to believe in God...

Nautikos, I just happened to read this whole Shermer's piece this afternoon.  And, I watched the trailer to Ben Stein's money (er...movie).   I will be interested in your full discussion over the matter.  One thing Ben Stein said is, "Darwinists are afraid of something."  Then he asked, "What do they have to hide?"  Will you be addressing this?

great blog Naut. I'm not a creationist or whatever, I have no problem with

the scientific world. I believe very simply.

God is the centre of the universe which he created.

From chaos God created order.

The bible isn't a scientific document

it's a book of faith on how to live a full life as God intended

Faith can't be defined in scientific terms, you either have it, or you don't.

It's not my place to ram it down your throat if you don't have faith

Jesus either in reality or as a God given message came into the world to do away with the law so that we can live by love for our neighbour. Who is my neighbour? The earth and all its wonders are my neighbour. My duty of care is to do all that I can to preserve harmony.

Simple  in the extreme, It works for me.
