They say there are only two kinds of divorces
bad ones and the ones that are going to get bad. That said except for the pain of separating from a loved one and the break up of the family mine was very easy we did all our negotiating without the lawyers.
Sounds like you may have to hammer him hard and then back off though if you still feel you should -- Good luck!!
Another thought -
I still loved my wife when we split and it was incredibly hard to get past the hurt to work out the other things rationally, maybe if you can work through the emotional stuff the fiscal stuff will be easier.
