Politicians don't care about public schools. A little lip service here and
there.  A positive law or regulation here and there.  The "No Child Left Behind" legislation is a collossal failure (most all because it has never been funded).  Most politicians' children go to private schools, so the public school system does not matter.  Generally speaking, these people are elitists, so they perpetuate their kind of people by ensuring that the lumpen proletariat also continues to exist -- through official negligence.  Sound cynical?  You might want to read that article again and think about the b.s. being spewed by the Bush administration about public education, the massive reduction of Pell grants and student loans for higher education, and Bush's NCLB legacy in the state of Texas.  It's not that they can't do better and make the education experience better to ensure better educated students.  It's that they don't really give a damn...
