What's it matter what "they" call you? Novelist, sports reporter, etc..
As soneone said, a rose by any other name... Could your local paper use a copy editor? Someone to fill in during vacations? Are there small businesses who could use a newsletter, but don't have capable staff? If you can write HS sports, you could cover a city council meeting or do day-in-the-life feature stories. Here's wishing you nothing but success with your writing projects.
