- Go to The power of WORDS
This reminds me another way words are used, as seeds, putting seeds in
someone elses mind. Then they think about it and you just may hear them repeat the words to others., Good post here , a different thought about words.

That's when you use the discretionary power of the adult to give the
"little princess" a reality check. Everybody goes through it sooner or later, and who better to have to fall from grace than the moron who called their kid a 'little princess' to begin with? Same thing goes for 'special,' 'most beautiful,' 'cutest', 'handsomest,' 'most talented,' 'best ____________', etc., etc. When the child gets to the point of manipulation and using your words against you, time to get real...

Thus always think twice
Many years ago when my son was a child I told him, 'You better be home by 4:pm son or I will come down there and get you myself.' I said this in a stern way, in a way I thought he'd understand, but he took me literally, he took it as if he had a choice. And so when 4:pm rolled around and my son was no where in sight, I went marching down the sidewalk to his friends house and there he was playing away, ignorant of the time. I yelled for him to come home right way and I tongue lashed him all the way home,. 'But, but, mom you said, if I didn't come home you'd come get me,' he sobbed. I shall never forget that day nor this lesson for I realized my children took my words literally. Of course I could not punish him, all I could do is apologize and then laugh with him over my ignorance. Great post
