Re: Semper Fidelis

All the luck and Godspeed to your son there are so many sons and daughters in harms way. I wish more people were more supportive. I myself believe terrorism is a very serious threat to our country. It has been around for along time (Before the 70's). I remember going to my dads reserve center in the early 80's and I remember the soldiers sitting thru classes on terrorism and plane hijackings. People act like this is Bush's fault and his vendetta but it is not. Radical Musslims and other terrorist groups have been acting this way unchecked and unaddressed for years, but people somehow have forgotten that. Mr. Bush just gave it a name and a reason to finally stop the monsters that blow people up and chop peoples heads off and crash jumbo jets full of people. I personally DO NOT CARE what reason he used... Its has been along time coming and I know that for a fact. War does suck and it too has been around since the beginning of time and the swords of war cut the world open and leave people with scars that really never heal. We are America and our force is a volunteer military force and contrary to popular belief we ( our military ) spend not only alot of time fighting wars but spend alot of time and effort rebuilding and restructuring war torn countries. We really try to make the world a better place. I guess in my age I am getting cynical it just feels to me that America has no sense of itself anymore. We let certain people and things strip us of our pride. I know as a mother you do not want to hear this but I am happy and grateful that young people still heed the call to protect our freedoms. It is also long over due that they get the respect and honor they deserve. No one wants the ultimate sacrifice, but just the sacrifices military men and women endure day in and day out should be enough to earn the respect of every American but it is not so.

I am sorry for the length of this but you touched my heart. Pease do keep me up to date on your son I know you are being strong for him and giving him all the support he deserves a mothers love is an amazing thing. Yes "once a Marine always a Marine" that is a fact I understand well but most who havent been thru the Island or thru boot camp in Cali or had to be the family of a Marine do not. The Marine Corps is a family and always will be. Like a family we accomplish things we get into trouble we laugh, love and we cry and we will support each other til the bitter end.

The family of a military member also makes huge sacrifices, Mothers, Fathers, wives, sisters brothers, sons and daughters. God bless them all for what they do and go thru.

Thanks for your reply I am gonna post this in my blog, I hope you do not mind. Again all the best to you and yours!

Semper Fidelis,

Robert Padgett, former Corporal USMC 0331 Machine Gunner Squad Leader

I am just now getting to the point where I can discuss the military with my soldier/son. He keeps reassuring me he is safe, but war stinks. I want to talk about anything but war right now. But that is a mother's selfishness at work. I check out the military channel from time to time to see the advances we are making. Thank you for the post. I thought that once a Marine always a Marine. What part of that do they not get? sam
