Poor Thing!
I've never had my car towed - stolen, yes. They found it in Montreal, abandoned, with an empty gas tank. I guess the guy just wanted get to Montreal on the cheap, had no money to buy gas, and so he just left it, slightly worse for wear...
However, once I left my garage door opener clipped to the visor of a rental car, while mine was in the shop. Forgot to take it with me after I took the rental back, and it took days of aggravation to get it back...
But repeat after me: I - shall - never - again - keep - my - 'life' - in - the - trunk - of - my - car...
