I loved that idea that you are dust, symboliized by the mark of a cross on the forehead. The thoughts presented are soothing too.

Re: Too bad there weren't more FineYoungSingers in the world!
hey sira, thank you for the compliment! I admit freely that I'm not always very good at following what I believe, but every day I wake up knowing that I have another chance to try again.
My husband and I were very happy to be asked! It was an opportunity to share a piece of myself with a stranger and make the world that much smaller. Not everyone knows about Ash Wednesday, or about other rituals, and it was nice to share that part of ourselves. Hopefully we were able to represent without sounding like idiots!

Too bad there weren't more FineYoungSingers in the world!
People, like you, who are willing to talk about their beliefs, without casting judgement or looking down their nose at those who don't follow the same practices.
I'd never heard of this ash ritual, and I likely would have been one of the one's questioning it, hoping that the person I asked would shine some light on the situation, without making me feel like a heathen for having to ask!

Re:
Sam, this is what our goal should be. It's the command of Christ, after all. Human beings, unfortunately, find themselves wrapped up in the politics of religion rather than in is true purpose, which is to promote the commandment of Jesus, which is to love one another. I'm sorry you found it necessary to leave. May you continue to seek Him through your travels upon whatever path you might find yourself.

If we could only collectively promote the goodness in everyone. I left the church several years ago but I do have fond memories of this most holy season in the church! sam
