vogue...........

I think maybe the times have made us ignore people we don't know.  I know that's sad, but that's the way it is. Times were everybody was friendly.  I remember that, and they had manners as well.

Thanks for visiting me, I appreciate the visit.

an elevator is a means to an end where common courtesy is suspended. i admire the way you approach the issue although i can't say that i have the nerve to do  the same .

Hi vogue
Yes, people in an elevator, especially when an opposite sex is there behave very strangely. Must study it. A good idea you gave me.

Excellent observations. Elevators are a special case of interaction among strangers, because of the brief duration. Unlike a room, where there is an expectation that people will be in one another's presence for a while longer. But even then context is important, think of waiting rooms. And when it's crowded, one's 'bubble of peronal space' is being popped, making a lot of people uncomfortable.

I will often say 'good morning' or make some more or less funny comment when entering a crowded elevator, but not always. It depends on my mood, frankly. I have also caused consternation, as for example here, if you're interested...http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Nautikos6191/421842

Elevators scare the hell out of me.
When I was younger I saw lots of pornography, and when ever people got stuck in an elevator they had sex. I'm always afraid this will happen to me.

My take is that in a city people are all about their 'space' and being silent is their invisible protection. Go to the country and it's a different scenario, you can be as wild and crazy as you like and still your gonna get a wave and a greeting with a smile

A Thrill Indeed

Even in those small moments, when you feel frightened and self-conscious, but just bite the bullet and say "Hi," and smile, it can be thrilling.  It's always thrilling.  Sometimes, well... actually... most of the time, people let their fear guide them, and this leads to a boring, monotonous, depresson filled life.

Thanks for the comment vogue, you must be a trip in real life.

about themselves and i used to live in a 6th floor apt and i would take the stairs about 95% of the time jus because im active but always honestly to me in those elevators its usually jus awkward silence and im not one to break it so i guess the stairs suit me better lol
