Whacky & Bo
So it appears, Whacky - strange isn't it?

TAPS
I looked up Badgers. TAPS and apparently they eat ' the young of some canines.'  I think that's a nice way of saying 'they gobble up puppies.'   It looks as if you're right about the badgers.

Wolf died of lead poisoning?
A rose and a smile and another From me and Bo =^. .^= the wonder dog!

Actually, Johnmacnab
It wasn't either of them, I just can't think of what kind of vicious little critter it was.  Hey, I just asked son and he told me it was a badger.   Do you know anything about badgers?

majroj
LOL.  Didn't the expression 'driveling rot' go out with the Empire, young man?

majroj: I noticed

My pleasure, BC-A.    I look forward to your short story.

ginnie
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, ginnie.  Now where did I see the word 'Barbados?'

Damn warthogs, all that "akuna mattata" stuff and all. Drivelling rot!

A tooth for a tooth. There's something to learn from the news story. Don't leave any pets out at night in an area where there are predators. I have a short short story for Groundhog Day, coming up in my blog. Thank you for sharing.

Ya absolutely Mac!
Even saw it on a sign in Wisconsin...very odd..and then on here...first started as a possible (though longshot) position for Steve.  We were hoping that hearing it several times that day was a good sign!

TAPS
You had me going there for a minute, TAPS.   I've seen a groundhog and I was trying to get my mind around the concept of one them eating a Beagle, when I read your next comment.  It is just as well that warthogs are African animals, otherwise there wouldn't be a Beagle left in the country.

majroj
Why not, majroj - go ahead and re-post.

ginnie
Is this one of those 'you hear the word once and it haunts you all day' cases?

Pat_B
Shame on you indeed, Pat_B.  I was having a sip of coffee as I read your comment.  Now what do I do with a coffee-sprayed monitor and keyboard?   I may send you the bill.   According to TAPS it does happen - or maybe she was recounting an urban legend?

posted by johnmacnab on January 26, 2008 at 5:53 AM | link to this | reply

The whole story sounds like urban legend.
Was the beagle's name Snoopy?  Perhaps the wolf was the Red Baron.  But now I'm being silly.  (head down, shame on me)

Ooops. It wasn't a groundhog,
It was a warthog.  They are the mean ones.

Johnmacnab
Dopey, half beagle and half pit bull was eaten by a groundhog and he wasn't even on a chain.  The toenails were left though, for seed I think.

or maybe not.

ginnie
I don''t know if it's for real, ginnie, but it is funny - in a macabre sort of way.  It was in the Ottawa Citizen on Monday 21st January.  I think it may have been 'embellished.'  At least she won't need to cut the dog's toenails again.

Azur
It was entertaining, wasn't it Azur?   I still have my doubts about it's authenticity, but it got me laughing.
