It was when one of my colleagues at work said it that I realised just how much my parents willingness to stick it out (50 years) gave us children a good sense of stability as we grew.

Wow...Happy Anniversary to your parents. That's great! You know I feel like you do about family in that I am very thankful for them. As far as dysfunctional families I believe we all have some dysfunction ( to some measure anyway)..but the objective is not to be that one and not too allow that dysfunctional one absorb us into their black vortex.

Congratulations to your parents. The biggest problem that I see is that your family has a lot of different personalities trying to stay meshed for harmony. Good luck, it will be worth the effort. sam
