I've enjoyed your whole blog, not just this entry...
Thank you JoAnne for writing this blog. It reminds me of when my mother brought my grandmother home for her final two weeks of life. She was suffering from dimensia and it was very hard for my mom but I know she and I and the rest of the family would not have traded it for the world. Unfortunately my grandmother was so far gone that she mostly slept, mumbled incoherently or, in some horrible moments, was violent, and in some wonderful moments, just kept repeating, "I love you." But my mom filled the house with familiar smells and sounds from my grandmother's life - potato soup, fish stew, and musicals like Oliver and The Sound of Music. I was so touched by your story of your brother. Good for you. I'm sending you positive energy and wonderful thoughts. Take Care.
