the life of art
I like reading you because you got this way of startling me with an off-center dimension that seems to be centered. In this one, I was wondering where I was going until the last stanza and line sprung the release back into the poem (and what a surprise). As I went back to re-read I could sense the 3 dimensions: Mother and Child (archetype)/ sculptor/ and you the viewer perceving that relationship thru your own construct, and re-entering it (therefore the 3rd dimension--and an almost impossible task thru words/concepts). So, I didn't get it till the end where "petrified" threw everything back into multiple meanings--as if you were painting the scuptor, who was sculpting in an outer form his/her internal vision as if to be held spellbound in Madonna and Child.
P.S. Thanks for your wonderful and thoughtful insights on "Have you ever met a lost love in a dream?"
