You are absolutely correct.  Cruelty masked as "constructive criticism".  One of my poems makes mention . . . "meaningful dialogues being the most insidious of all." joab

If I've understood correctly it sounds like a workshop took some wind out of our sail.  Creativity is so personal, so individual.  I attended a workshop a few years back and it almost sucked the life out of me.  I know (most days) what I want to say and how I want to say it so I forge ahead regardless of traditional styles, techniques, and above all criticism.
