Thanks Ryan A . . . Yeah, Hank was one of a kind. We closed numerous bars together. And, believe it or not, he was one of the most gentle souls you could meet -- until he was pissed. I saw him start a near-riot at CITY LIGHTS BOOKS STORE, Lawrence Ferlenghetti's place in S.F. l believe the local PBS station in S.F. taped part of it. If you haven't read HOLLYWOOD, by Black Sparrow Press, it's worth a read. It details the absurdities he endured while BARFLY, the movie, was being shuffled like a deck of marked cards. joab

fucking awesome
thanks for this...i don't know if my writing really shows this or not, but i am obsessed with Charles Bukowski. Half the time I feel like I'm ripping him off and I don't even mean to, his style is just so simple and powerful. Very good poem.
