Those are awesome suggestions!

Thanks everyone - My next project will be finding a prisoner to make friends with!

Visit a convict. Volunteer. There are church groups that donate books
to prisoners -- some give children's books so the ones incarcerated can give their own children a book and read to them on visiting day. There must be other charitable or public service groups who provide support to prisoner families...

I believe one
author became friends with an inmate and would go visit him.  You won't get much information from the guards anyway unless you interviewed them seperately, and even then they are careful about what they say.  The author was Dani~elle Ste*el if I'm not mistaken. Take care

Maybe you could find out the name of an inmate and go visit?

I have watched a few on MSNBC called "The Big House" and they are interesting (but I'll stay outside thanks)....Good luck!
