I think many of them are being weaned away from "community" as they
play computer games, surf the net (even at very early ages) and there's so much news about dangerous strangers. You're right: "The times, they are a'changin."

The children are disconnected...
They are living in an age of fear. Fear that the next terrorist attack may be in their neighborhood. Fear that a kindly stranger may want them to take a ride in a van. Or maybe they just don't know how to deal with a world that they can't control with a game controller.
