I don't think that's the kind of rain they were looking for, Justi.
Drought relief isn't going to come in a little rain. There's got to be a sustained pattern of rain over a couple of weeks time. Beleive what you want, god isn't shrinking the Sahara or stabilizing the ice shelves. Two years of drought isn't going away because a bunch of people pray about it. A lot of people have been praying for a year and divine intervention has yet to materialize. Of course, people in Iraq have been praying to the same god to rid their country of Coalition soldiers since 2003, and, well, you know that story...

That's a good point, gomedome. But think of all the rhetoric, posturing,
and time lost on the public dole if this type of thing was completely disallowed. I say, pick our battles wisely...

saul_relative - I tend to agree that a public prayer assembly such as this
is relatively harmless.
But on the other hand where is the line drawn? It should be drawn between public and private organization of such an assembly. We live in free societies where people should have the right to form assemblies and do this sort of thing if it makes them feel better. It is the payable hours of persons on public payrolls incurring publicly funded costs by participating in the organization of this event that is the only issue.
